Grass Ridge R&D · Est. on a 100-year-old family farm

Ag-tech engineering,
proven on a working farm.

More than a decade of building ag-tech that farmers actually pay for. Now helping robotics and hard-tech teams get from prototype to the field, with our own 2,000-acre, 700-cow dairy to test on.

01 What we do

Build it. Prove it. Sell it.

Most ag-tech teams have to stitch together a dev shop, a test farm, and an advisor who has actually farmed. We're all three, under one roof.

01 / Engineering

Build the software

Hard-tech and ag-tech engineering from a team that has shipped production farm software for a decade.

  • Robot software, integrations & teleop tooling
  • Fleet, ops & customer dashboards
  • Machine-data pipelines & APIs
  • ML, computer vision & AI agents
  • Farmer-facing apps & MVPs

02 / Field testing

Prove it in the field

Deploy on a 2,000-acre, 700-cow working dairy, with engineers on site who can debug your stack, not just babysit your robot.

  • Freestall barns, feed alleys & manure lanes
  • Row crops, hay ground & pasture
  • Livestock, mud, dust & hard winters
  • Structured test plans, data & video
  • Field ops & maintenance for your fleet
  • Humanoid & mobile-manipulation trials

03 / Advisory

Sell it to farmers

Straight feedback on what farmers will actually buy, from people who have sold to them and farm every day.

  • Product & pricing reality checks
  • Workflow fit on real operations
  • Pilot design & customer discovery
  • Robotics market landscape
  • We'll call out the weak spots before your customers do

02 Track record

What our team has built.

Production software running on real farms and in real ag businesses. A few of the problems we've solved.

See the work
  • Dairy

    Dairy operations software

Software for running the daily operations of large dairy farms, used on farms in almost every US state.

  • Supply chain

    Animal feed marketplace

A marketplace for bulk animal feed, with the logistics software to move it. Feed sold into all lower 48 states.

  • Machine data

    Machine-data pipeline tooling

Customer-facing tools to inspect and manage data flowing in from John Deere, Case IH, and other farm machines.

  • AI

AI agents on farm machine data

Agentic intelligence and a data lake on top of machine data, for R&D, sales, and operations teams.

  • Veterinary

Voice AI for emergency vet calls

24/7 call intake that answers, takes notes, and dispatches the on-call vet.

03 The proving ground

Real barns. Real cows. Real mud.

Test plots and demo farms are tidy. Commercial farms aren't. Grass Ridge is a working dairy, so your robot meets the conditions your customers will actually throw at it.

  1. 01

    Freestall barns

Stalls, curtains, fans, and 700 cows that don't care about your robot.

  2. 02

    Feed alleys & bunks

Daily feeding, feed pushing, and constant traffic.

  3. 03

    Manure lanes

Slick, uneven, and corrosive. Hard on wheels, tracks, and feet.

  4. 04

    Calf & heifer facilities

Young stock housing with very different layouts and hazards.

  5. 05

    Cropland

About 2,000 acres of corn silage, soybeans, alfalfa, clover, and pasture.

  6. 06

    Yard & field roads

Gravel, ruts, gates, slopes, and full-size equipment traffic.

04 Humanoids

Test where nothing is staged.

Humanoids need evidence from messy, variable, real places: uneven ground, changing light, dust, mud, weather, and tasks that are never set up the same way twice. A working farm has all of it, every day.

Humanoid field trials

What you get to test

  • Real-world variation
  • Failure & recovery
  • Multi-week reliability
  • Degraded sensing
  • Gravel, mud & ice
  • Gates & doors
  • Tool use
  • Carrying loads

05 Who's behind it

A farmer who ships software.

Grass Ridge R&D is led by Carl Lippert, who grew up on Grass Ridge Farm and has been building ag-tech since 2013.

Put a decade of shipping farm software next to a working farm, and you get engineers who understand both the robot and the rugged, variable place it has to work.

"We'll tell you what's not going to work before your customers do."

06 FAQ

Common questions

Is Grass Ridge R&D a farm or an engineering firm?

Both, on purpose. Grass Ridge R&D is the engineering and testing arm of Grass Ridge Farm, a working family dairy. We build software and hardware integrations for ag-tech and hard-tech teams, and use the farm to prove that work in real conditions.

Can we bring our robot to test on the farm?

Yes. We're opening a limited number of founding-partner field tests for 2027, from a few days on site to a full-season pilot. Every test starts with a scoping call and a written test and safety plan.

Do you only work with dairy companies?

No. Dairy is where we're strongest, but we've built for machine data, row crops, feed, veterinary, and robotics. If it has to work on a farm, it's in scope.
